India is home to hundreds of languages and countless dialects, each carrying its own history and culture. But this diversity often becomes a barrier when it comes to using digital services. Most of the internet still speaks only English or a few other languages, leaving many people unable to fully benefit from it. Bhashini aims to change that by making it possible for everyone to access digital content and services in the language they are most comfortable with.
Bhashini is a national digital initiative launched by the Government of India under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The full name is “Bhasha Interface for India”, and it was introduced as part of the National Language Translation Mission (NLTM) in 2022. Bhashini is a public digital platform powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) that works to make digital services, apps, and content available in all major Indian languages.

- Extensive AI Model Ecosystem
The platform hosts over 300 pre-trained AI models—including ASR, MT, TTS, OCR, transliteration, and language detection—available via open APIs. - Enabled Voice-Based Transactions
Bhashini goes beyond translation—supporting multilingual, voice-activated payment systems. Users can execute UPI transfers via voice commands in their native language. - Robust Crowdsourcing Through “Bhasha Daan”
This initiative invites citizens to contribute and validate data across four categories:- Suno India (transcript audio)
- Bolo India (donate or validate voice recordings)
- Likho India (translate or validate text)
- Dekho India (type text seen in images or label them)
Contributions build AI training datasets from real, diverse linguistic usage.
